There are more than four and half million Australians
about to start a second revolution.
The revolution, like a tsunami that starts far
off shore, is growing bigger and stronger by the
day.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistic,
this human tsunami will peak in 2011, just a lightening
decade away.
The vanguard of this revolution is amongst us.
They are the Baby-Boomers.
Baby-Boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964,
created the youth culture of the 60's and 70's.
Boomers challenged and changed our attitudes, values
and beliefs about nearly every aspect of our lives.
From marriage, war, to food, and music, Boomers
had an enormous impact on Australia's psyche, politics
and social fabric of today.
From the 60's youth culture, to the dual-income
households of the 80's and 90's, Boomers have reinvented
each stage of their lives.
They are about to do it again, this time in the
first two decades of this century.
Boomers will bring a wide range of values, attitudes
and behaviours to the next 20 years. Boomers think
and act young. They don't feel old.
In the US eight out of ten Boomers say they plan
to work at least part time in the their so-called
retirement, with about 25% stating they will have
to work to live. Many are investing in their health
and want an exciting sex and love life.
Just over a third say they will work part time,
mainly for interest and enjoyment.
Now let's play 'what ifs' with Australian Boomers
and work.
Let's first assume these US figures can be applied
to Australia.
This means of 4.5 million Australian Boomers, 1.1
million Boomers will have to work, and 1.5 million
will want to work for interest and enjoyment.
What would the impact be if 2.6 million Boomers
look for work in the next 10 years?
Will they find or create new types of work? Create
new careers? What will this mean to the Australian
political and economic landscape?
Boomers will shape the future with their political
and economic clout.
If many of us are going to or have to earn an income
we'll need the best health possible, a set of beliefs,
attitudes and values that help us secure our future,
financially physically, and mentally.
Successfully Taking Control for Life® means
each one of us must seriously think and take action
our future.
Don't wait for
the future to happen, create it now.
